Today we are discussing the relevance and importance of the ASRM Ethics Committee with Dr. Sigal Klipstein, the committee's chair. The Ethics Committee was formed at the beginning of the American Fertility Society, and its role is to address the ethical issues surrounding reproductive medicine. The committee is diverse and includes practicing clinicians, ethicists, theologians, lawyers, mental health professionals, and patient advocates. The committee produces a series of articles that address important questions in reproductive medicine, such as the moral status of the embryo, gamete and embryo donation, issues with long-term cryopreservation, and embryo research. The committee's opinions may come from previous opinions that are outdated or from new technologies that have developed, and are essential in shaping the future of reproductive medicine.
